Chinese Jasmine is also known as winter jasmine, pink jasmine, pink winter jasmine or sometimes Chinese evergreen jasmine. This semi-fast growing vine is native to China. It can grow up to more than 20 ft (6 m) and has hundreds of strongly perfumed flowers in late winter and early spring. Chinese Jasmine has a semi-deciduous (will lose some leaves in winter) to evergreen foliage, depending on the climate. The flowers are pure white, but the flower buds are pink. They are strongly perfumed, and are grouped in clusters. This Jasmine is an ornamental vine with interesting foliage. It is vigorous and only needs a few seasons to cover large areas. It can be grown in light shade, though prefers full sun. Chinese Jasmine is fairly frost hardy, as it can withstand low temperatures down to about 18°F (-8°C) and has been reported to survive even lower temperatures. This jasmine likes fertile and well-drained soils that remain moist. Fertilize with 2-10-10 4 times annually to give the best flower production.
